Saying, “I do” isn’t just about agreeing to be with someone. It’s also about agreeing to a major change in your life. Your lifestyle and food habits aren’t going to be just yours now. You start connecting every little thing that happens in your life with your partner too. And after a couple of years of togetherness, the habits don’t just remain yours, they became a mutual habit’.

A research conducted by the University of North Carolina took into observation the weight measurements of nearly 8000 people. They kept track of the weight gains of both men and women of single status, committed status, and married status. This research’s conclusion came up with stats that showed that on an average, a woman gains around 24 pounds in the initial 5-6 years of marriage. Whereas an unmarried or single woman gained 2 pounds less, that’s 22 pounds.

Coming to men, the study showed the weight transition on a higher end when men’s status changed from single to married or committed. Men likely gained around 25 pounds.

The conclusion of this study was that there is indeed a strong association between obesity and long term romantic relationships (2).

The National Institute of Health conducted more research just to examine and understand if the weight gain among the newlyweds was a positive or a negative outcome of their happiness. For this, the study took into consideration the observations made on newly wedded couples and those couples who were already married for at least a span of four years.

This study reached a conclusion that just-married couples were happier and gained more weight as they don’t really have to put effort into keeping each other attracted (3). Whereas couples who have been married for long and are unhappy and not so-in-love did not gain weight because of the stress they faced.

So, if one gains weight, chances are that the spouse might gain weight too. The New England Journal of Medicine conducted a study that proved that weight gain among couples is a contagious thing.

After analyzing the habits, activities, and the social environment of the couples, the study concluded that the mutual increase in weight is a result of both the psychological influence of both the partners on each other, with their respective eating habits (4).

  • आधा कटोरी मसूर दाल

  • हरी मिर्च
  • हरा धनिया
  • 1 बड़ा प्याज
दाल बनाने की सामान्य विधि :
  • दाल को धोकर कुकर में डाल दें और दाल से 2 इंच ऊपर तक पानी डाल दें। साथ ही उसमें नमक, लाल मिर्च व हल्दी डालें।
  • फिर उसे धीमी आंच में पकने के लिए रख दें।
  • कुकर की 3 सीटी बजने तक उसे चूल्हे पर ही रहने दें। कुकर की 3 सीटी बजने के बाद आपकी दाल पूरी तरह से पक जाएगी।
  • फिर एक फ्राई पैन में तेल को गर्म करें।
  • तेल के गर्म होने पर पहले जीरा डाले, फिर कटी हुई हरी मिर्च और फिर प्याज डालें।
  • प्याज को सुनहरे रंग का होने तक फ्राई करें।
  • फिर उसमें टमाटर डालें और उन्हें गलने दें।
  • टमाटर गलने के बाद कुकर से दाल को निकालकर उसमें डाल दें।
  • करीब 5-10 मिनट तक उसे सामान्य आंच पर रहने दें। इस दौरान बीच-बीच में कड़छी चलाते रहें।

सबसे पहले दिन के किसी निश्चित पहर का चुनाव करना होगा। सुबह का वक्त योग अभ्यास करने का आदर्श समय माना जाता है। सुबह की ताजी हवा के बीच अनुलोम-विलोम ज्यादा कारगर तरीके से आपको स्वस्थ रखने का काम करेगा। आप चाहें तो शाम के वक्त भी इस प्राणायाम का अभ्यास कर सकते हैं। अब नीचे जानिए अनुलोम-विलोम करने का क्रमबद्ध तरीका :

  1. किसी साफ जगह का चुनाव करें और वहां योग मैट या कोई साफ चादर बिछाएं। ध्यान रहे कि अनुलोम-विलोम के लिए दाएं हाथ के अंगूठे और दाएं हाथ की मध्य उंगली को ही काम में लाया जाएगा।
  1. अब आपको पद्मासन की मुद्रा में बैठना होगा, यानी बाएं पैर के पंजे को अपने दाईं जांघ पर और दाएं पैर के पंजे को बाईं जांघ पर रखें। जो पद्मासन की मुद्रा में नहीं बैठ सकते, वो सुखासन मुद्रा में बैठ सकते हैं। वहीं, जिनके लिए जमीन पर बैठना मुश्किल है, वो कुर्सी पर बैठे सकते हैं।
  1. कमर सीधी रखें और अपनी दोनों आंखें बंद कर लें।
  1. एक लंबी गहरी सांस लें और धीरे से छोड़ दें। इसके बाद खुद को एकाग्र करने की कोशिश करें।
  1. इसके बाद अपने दाहिने (Right) हाथ के अंगूठे से अपनी दाहिनी नासिका को बंद करें और बाई (Left) नासिका से धीरे-धीरे गहरी सांस लें।
  1. सांस लेने में जोर न लगाएं, जितना हो सके उतनी गहरी सांस लें।
  1. अब दाहिने हाथ की मध्य उंगली से बाई नासिका को बंद करें और दाई नासिका से अंगूठे को हटाते हुए धीरे-धीरे सांस छोड़ें।
  1. कुछ सेकंड का विराम लेकर दाई नासिका से गहरी सांस लें।
  1. अब दाहिने अंगूठे से दाहिनी नासिका को बंद करें और बाई नासिका से दाहिनी हाथ की मध्य उंगली को हटाकर धीरे-धीरे सांस छोड़ें।
