The biggest revolution of the 20th century has been the invention of the internet and social media. It started as a simple way to connect the world and has now become the most essential aspect of modern-day life. While it has been a huge blessing, several reasons show that it is a curse too. The internet is a place where people can come together and change the world but sadly, there are a lot of people out there who use the internet for stupid things. While some of them use it as a platform to voice out their concerns, others use it as a means to gain overnight fame and many a time, popularity comes from actions of stupidity rather than wisdom. With the launch of TikTok, we’ve seen several challenges that have become viral internet sensations; right from the ice bucket challenge to the Kiki challenge. We’ve seen the internet being taken by storm by such challenges and everyone likes to participate in these challenges because it’s deemed to be “cool”. However, some of these challenges are not as fun as the others and they end up being just an abomination like the Blue Whale challenge.
Another such challenge that is trending right now is the #SkullBreakerChallenge. It is extremely dangerous and stupid but all’s fair when it comes to fame, right? Well, wrong. This challenge is outrightly stupid because there are high chances of getting your skull, brain, and even your spine damaged. It started as a prank and has now gone viral all over the internet.
What The TikTok Challenge Is
So what is the #SkullBreakerChallenge all about? It involves three dumb people where two of them fool the third person into jumping up in the air and kicking their feet out from under them. Confused? Well, let me explain. Three idiots stand in a row and the two on either side jump up in the air first, followed by the one in the middle. Just before the one in the center lands to the ground, the other two kick his feet forward causing him to fall on his back. Not only is this challenge extremely brainless, but it can cause serious back, neck, spine and head injuries which will cause you to lose your brain in reality.
As bizarre as this challenge is, what’s weird is how fast it became viral on the internet. It makes us wonder if people who are interested in this have a brain in their skull or not. Perhaps this is why the challenge was created so it can be tested once they break their thick-skulled heads? Many challenges have gone viral on Tiktok in the past but this one seems extra fatal. Teenagers everywhere are trying the #SkullBreakerChallenge aka the #TrippingJumpChallenge and the internet took it up to warn them of the dangers of this so-called game.
The Dangers Of The #SkullBreakerChallenge
With such challenges trending on the internet, it is natural for parents to worry about their children because of how daft children can be. Realizing how perilous this challenge is, many people including parents and authorities took to the internet to express their concern.
There are several cases reported of children who were injured because of this extremely risky game, some of which have resulted in fractures and brain bleeds. A 13-year-old girl had a concussion and was admitted in the hospital for two days, another 14-year-old girl said that she blacked out for almost 10 seconds and felt a huge pressure on her head after she participated in this internet sensation (1). There have been several other cases reported one of which includes the death of a 16-year-old girl (2).
It is not the first time doctors have warned people about the challenges that become viral on TikTok. Previously, a challenge called the #PassOutChallenge became viral which had users rolling their heads back and forth several times to make themselves faint. Thousands of people reported severe headaches and neck injuries after participating in it. With the #SkullBreakerChallenge, doctors have said that there are huge risks that might lead to damage to the spine and brain and result in participants being disabled for life or even death. The force with which one lands on the ground can cause their skull to crack and even cause an internal brain bleed, said reports online. In those reports, doctors have said that this can be very dangerous and can even cause loss of life. With a spinal injury, one can lose function of their movements and there are chances of being bedridden for life (3).
When the risk is so high, it is even worth the 10 seconds of possible fame? Do you really want to be infamous as the idiot who died for likes? This is something that we should ask ourselves before participating in a viral outburst on the internet. Not everything that causes fame is good for us and the #SkullBreakerChallenge is definitely a no-brainer. While teenagers will tend to want to try this out, it is our duty to make them aware of the hazards of it and save them from literally ruining their lives over something as foolish as “likes” on the internet.
